The Story Behind reCycleBikes
Our Story
Hi, I’m Jason, founder of reCycleBikes, based in Coquitlam, BC. My journey in cycling is a blend of passion, community involvement, and a commitment to sustainability. As a regular volunteer at a community bike shop in Vancouver, I help customers maintain and fix their own bikes, sharing my love for cycling and empowering others with essential skills. My personal cycling adventures range from mountain biking to gravel and road biking, exploring diverse terrains and embracing the joy of being on two wheels.
Through my volunteer work and personal cycling experiences, I noticed a growing interest in e-bikes. People were looking for ways to enhance their rides, making commuting easier and recreational rides more enjoyable. However, I recognized a problem: the market was flooded with new e-bikes that were either of poor quality or prohibitively expensive. This realization led me to search for a solution that could make e-bikes more accessible and affordable for everyone.
In my quest, I discovered the potential of e-bike conversions. This approach not only improved accessibility and affordability but also provided a method to give new life to beloved old bikes. Thus, reCycleBikes was born. Our name reflects our dual mission: to recycle old bikes by revitalizing them and to encourage riders to 're-cycle'—to dust off the bikes they love but use less often, converting them into e-bikes to get more out of their cycling experience.
At reCycleBikes, our commitment extends beyond simply converting bikes. We aim to contribute to sustainability, inspire cyclists, and foster a community where cycling is accessible to everyone. I would love to see more people cycling, exploring where they live, and improving their overall health. I believe in alternative modes of transportation and the joy that comes when someone decides to take their bike instead of their car, exploring new places and immersing themselves in nature. This alignment with our core values of innovation and community continues to drive every aspect of our work, encouraging a greener and more engaged cycling culture.
Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or new to the biking world, I invite you to join us on this journey. Let’s ride towards a greener future together!
